You might be a little bit more familiar with brain injuries, since so many vets come home with closed head injuries. I had a Grade II DAI with small but widespread foci in the corpus callosum, right thalamus and right medial temporal lobe. Also had a small (5mm) hemorrhage on the left vertex.

All this means that my doctors had every reason to tell me what they did: that I had a long and difficult recovery ahead of me, like those vets have had for them. I do not know why my recovery has been so accelerated and many good, brave men have suffered so long, but what I can say is that I know exactly what they went through, how they felt, and the incredible hard work it takes to recover.

I never even knew what a DAI was, and barely was even aware of TBI. All that has now changed. Let them know that there is now one more guy out here who really understands what they've gone through, and just what it takes to return to life after TBI.
