both sound like awesome dogs.. I know you must have loved and cared for them so much..

Your situation with Flair sound similar to ours with Lucie.. Lucie went blind 2-3 years ago, which just crushed us.. we took her to Dallas to a specialist, but she had developed SARDS and went blind within a week.. there's no cure for SARDS.. I made a bunch of foam rubber bumper pads and put them all over the house to keep her from bonking her head as much as possible.. Still, she ran into everything..

Last May we came home from vacation and she wasn't right.. Her spleen had enlarged and her immune system was killing her red blood cells (Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia).. we fought it as hard as we could for 8 months.. blood tests every week, prednisone and cyclosporin (which was $60 a week itself) and other tests (ultrasound, x-rays etc).. she would get better, then have zero energy.. I remember the day after Thanksgiving realizing she wasn't going to make it and just falling apart - I literally went to jelly and have never cried that hard or long in my life.. I rebounded and tried even harder to help her.. she would have good days and bad..

December 12 my wife called me at work and told me that she thought it was time.. I rushed home and we tried everything we could to get her to rebound again, but she couldn't.. we took her to the vet that day and asked their opinion and they said it was time.. hardest thing I've ever done in my life.. Totally crushing.. We took her home with us and the next day drove about 60 miles to get her cremated.. She has a forever home on our mantle now.. Not a day goes by that we both don't cry over that dog (I'm bawling just typing this) because we miss her so much.. Of course, two days later we almost lost Torrie, as well, so we weren't even able to properly grieve as we went into panic mode trying to save Torrie..

..and then Gypsie came into our lives and new life starts all over again..

Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
