Posted many times on this board that I don't really listen to lyrics... (to my chagrin), and that it's the music I hear... the words, vocals, come off merely as 'notes' to me, for the most part.
But down through the years there have been some.... I can remember loving many.. Not that I understood them always but they never the less seemed to inspire me.
Moody Blues - "Question" was one of the first where I actually concentrated on the lyrics more than the music.. although I loved both.
Bob Dylan "Like A Rolling Stone"... to this day one of the most fun songs to sing along too ever written.
Another that set my mind to pondering the meaning of "Life, The Universe, And Everything"... was a melody that on the surface seemed quite simple yet for me became one of the most profound statement of life I ever heard - "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay" by Otis Redding.
Lot more I could name but I'm going to include just one other... and I do so because it's a mystery to me. A mystery because... I am of two minds... simultaneously I consider the lyrics both absurdly juvenile and, well, VERY bad poetry and also dead on point accurate and honest - "Get Here" by Oleta Adams.
