But, transistor radios were way more common and much cheaper, I'm sure, by the time I came down the pike, probably in the 1965-66 range.. I do remember lying in bed with it quite often just listening to the 1 of 2 radio stations it would pick up.. A DJ back then by the name of "Mad Martin" who was killed in a motorcycle accident a couple of years later.. I was really proud of that radio, tho, I think I might be able to find it, as well, but, like you would take more effort than I can muster right now..

I also remember our B/W television with the rabbit ears that my brother and I had in our room, and how cool I thought we were to have one, because not every kid had their own TV.. 3 stations and occasionally a PBS station would filter in.. Loved it... When my parents got their first color TV it was like the clouds had parted and the angels sang..

We had AC window units in the living room and dining room and would hang a towel, or something over the doorway to keep those two areas isolated so they would be cooler.. We had a window unit in our bedroom, as well, but it rarely worked.. but for some reason, even in 115 degree Texas heat we weren't all that worried.. One car, a Mercury, had AC - added as a drop down unit from the dash.. The other car, a 50's Studabaker station wagon, had no AC.. I'll never forget traveling fro Texas to New York in the dead of summer with no AC in the Studabaker.. All was well until the hood flew open on the highway and we were almost killed... Good times!

Dunno why I went off on the ramble, there.. your transistor radio post just kinda made me think about the old times growing up and how much simpler things were and how we didn't seem to sweat anything.. Well, except what prize was at the bottom of the Frosted Flakes box...

Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
