was a cheap Casio G Shock that cost me about $32.. It lasted me from 1991 until about 2010 when the battery finally died.. So, of course I took it in to get the battery replaced because I AM that cheap.. So, the guy tells me he can replace the battery, but doubts it will remain waterproof because he has to break the seal.. So, that was the end of that watch..
So, I got another way more expensive newfangled G Shock ($125) that doesn't have batteries - it utilizes power from the sun (solar power for the layperson!) - and you don't ever have to set it because it sets itself by satellite according to whatever time zone you tell it to set to.. Well, unless you leave it in a dark place for a few days and i runs out of power and stops.. the second you move it into light, it resets itself to current time, which is pretty cool because it still has hands and whatnot..
The pain is when we got to remote areas that are in different time zones - like Bora Bora, which is 5 hour behind our time, or even Mexico during non-daylight savings time hours.. You need an F'ing (see previous post regarding usage of the F word) PHD to set the time to a different time zone.. But, its still pretty cool and I'll never need to replace the battery cuz it doesn't have one.. hopefully it will last at least as long as my other cheapo G Shock..
