don't let the subject title fool you, this is a boring post.
In the early summer of 1992 I bought two stop watches... cheapo's, nothing fancy, LCD. My family and I like to time the events, as competition with each other. Most 'perfect' times during the games wins... quite prestigious.
I'm about, knock on wood, to complete the 2006 Olympics with those same two stop watches, (we have others purchased later). And get this.. SAME BATTERIES, BOTH!
Now THAT is staying power. We all panicked yesterday when we picked up one of them and it was dead. We went into mourning. Seriously, we were crushed. BUT... on closer inspection we discovered that the reason it was dead was because the battery was MISSING!
My youngest grandson, Elijah, was learning, this year, to time events... to join the traditional competition. Part of the learning process is learning how to twirl the lanyard around a finger, back and forth... on his 2nd or 3rd attempt the stop watch made contact with his head... and unbeknownst to us, at the time, it knocked off the battery cover and sent the battery flying - - - where it landed where all things land that are thrown, laid down, or simply 'out of mind'... under the sofa cushions. We found it... and with baited breath we put it back in the stop watch and..... oh the joy, hard to explain in words. The stop watch came back to life.
So anyway... that's my most memorable 2016 Olympic moment. - JamesJM
