We used to watch that every year , ( OK , maybe not the entire 21 1/2 hours of it , ) up until a couple years ago when they finally did away with it
I had a cousin that was my dads age , who had MS , although she passed away when I was less then a year old so I never knew her
But her stories around town were legendary , being in a small town , back in the 1950's and early 1960's , she worked at the phone office as a switch board operator , one of only a couple they had back then , ( my mom worked there as well )
But she worked there for like 10 years , so it was pretty safe to say , not only everyone in town knew her well , but everyone in the county as well
Also , at the time , she was like the one who always arranged all the women's bridal showers and baby showers here in town , or at least her legend sure makes it seem that way
She was in her early 30's when she passed away , she died from a brain aneurysm
So every year , my dad's family , well , both sides of my family would always donate to the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon , and we still do through their web site
So I have always been a huge fan of Jerry Lewis , but like him or not , the man put an incredible amount of time into helping those with MDA
Labor Day Weekend , just isn't the same
