The is how I grew up.... AND spent most of my adult life. This photo represents that life. Scott's Market -
In the photo Sally, Joyce & Jimmy. Joyce and Jimmy Scott who owned this market and Sally who worked there forever. The market is no longer here, nor Sally, Joyce and Jimmy. The market burned down about 10 years ago but had been out of business 10 years previous to that.
This photo dates back to the very early 70's. Inside the windows on either side of the door were some displayed goods... THAT were never changed since the store opened in that late 20's. Products long out of business.

Scott's were not the original owners. Every person that ever lived in my home town sat on that front bench at one time or another... having a Yahoo maybe, bottled Coke... if evening then perhaps a Falstaff. The Oleander bush in the background is still there. Everything you 'really' needed to sustain life, somewhat comfortably, could be found inside Scott's Market. Got my groceries there, earthworms for fishing, general household repair items, 25lb blocks of ice and even a 100lb'r if you needed it, and Jimmy would even hang your buck, cow, pig, lamb, in his large walk-in freezer then butcher it for you.
I liked it better back then.... but I think we all feel that way about the worlds we grew up in. Oh sure... some 'new' things I wouldn't want to go without today... but in general life was less stressful back then. - JamesJM
