Frank and I haven't done tons of travelling. We got married in Negril, Jamaica. Went back to Negril for our 1st wedding anniversary. Then we went on an annual smooth Jazz cruise in the Caribbean for 5 years. By the time we went on our last cruise, we could see a hug e difference in travel from when we got married in Jamaica 7 years before. Then Frank had his amputation in early 2009, There was no way we were going to travel any time soon. Left on our bucket list was a Mediterranean cruise. It took about a year, I'd say, for Frank to get comfortable with a wheelchair, then a walker, and finally a prosthetic. Then he had another surgery to fix a protruding hernia. I was nearing retirement so again, we put travel plans on hold for at least a year while we got acclimated to living on retirement savings. Then life happened and I planned a wedding for a year AND paid cash for it. That was cough, cough... over $30K. Then a baby was coming... and we became Grandparent Daycare.... life just kept getting in the way and the whole time, we were aging. As ya'll know, I did fly alone to our family reunion a year before my brother died and then again when he passed... but it was a domestic flight, not foreign.
Frank and I talk about travelling often, but not in the way you might think. We talk about how grateful we are that we did get to do a little bit for a while but are in agreement that our travel days are done. The only thing that was on our bucket list that we regret not doing and accept that we'll never do is a Mediterranean cruise. But it's ok. We'd rather avoid the hassle required to get there and back. We no longer have the desire to fly ANYwhere. Most excursions require quite a bit of walking and physically I just can't handle that. So now, we'd rather stick close to home. And that's perfectly fine with us.
