We had a small opening near the kitchen and "he" (don't recall any milkwomen) would place the glass bottles of milk into this opening so when we woke up we could bring them in without going outside.

Also remember the Helms Bakery truck coming by with the wonderful smell of donuts and of course the "Good Humor" ice cream truck coming up the street ringing its bell.
