They get paid 40_50k for 75-90 minutes and its a big deal because the record labels back in the day swindled them. The opportunity to make that with two of the original 4-5 band members is a lifeline.
Look at the bands that would sell out arenas after platinum albums that are working on tours hitting casinos and small venues and tripling up together at State and County Fairs.
More recent/modern artists can get around that with the intent but back then the record labels and execs got wealthy by screwing artists and entertainers.
