I had made a new friend, he had just moved into the area... family had gone bankrupt and they had to come here to make a living on a small plot of land they owned.
He and I had many similar interests... became best friends. One of those shared interests was Star Trek - - so when the movie came out we got in line. Don't remember for sure but maybe 6 hours of waiting in the line to see the premiere. Sat in the very front row... he liked watching movies from there.
We were not impressed... we didn't think it was 'bad', exactly... but we felt it was missing the 'heart' of what made Star Trek great. Today I think that was an overreaction BUT... I have not seen it a second time to find out.
For what it's worth... the following movies improved a lot, IMHO. BUT... my friend didn't see them. He was killed in an auto accident a year after Star Trek The Motion Picture came out. - JamesJM
