The meteorite that I saw hit the ground was 'aqua'.... or at least that's as close as I can come to describing it.... in truth it was a color of blue I had never seen before or since. The closest are those CGI fluorescent colors generated in movies, like Avatar.
Most of the very large meteors I've seen were a 'green' in color. Not sure why that is.... perhaps the material they are composed of?
The biggest and brightest I ever saw blew my mind... I could see a fire trail, and it was much slower than any other meteor I had ever seen. That's because it turned out to be a Russian satellite burning up on reentry. My wife and I saw and I guessed that it had hit the ground just over a mountain range south of us... about 30 miles away. In truth, reading about it the next day, it hit in the Pacific ocean several hundreds miles south of LA... meaning probably at least 1,000 miles from where I saw it. Distances can be very deceiving. - JamesJM
