One I can confirm.... I saw a meteorite hit the ground. I've mentioned that before. Luck, obviously. I can gone outside to take a leak, (I do that, since I live in the country)... and saw it coming down and then the explosion when it hit... about 35-40 miles from me. Local astronomy club members found the impact site but nothing was left.
The second one I'll never know if was as it appeared... IF it was then it's probably more amazing that seeing the meteorite hit the ground. I saw two meteors collide in mid-air. Or did I?
Observing the night sky sky I saw two meteors flash into view heading straight toward each other. Seeing two meteors at once is actually not that uncommon.... but these two met as a single point of light, and when they did they split into several pieces dispersing like a firework explosion. It's not uncommon to see a single meteor split apart... probably everyone here has seen that happen... so it could be that just at the moment they 'appeared' to meet one came apart... IOW no impact between the two, just one of them disintegrating. However... if that were the case I should have seen the other one continue its path.... I did not. So, I'll never know for sure.... but my semi-educated guess is that they collided. - JamesJM
