No way to learn everything about WWII

I study the Civil War thoroughly... WWII not so much BUT... I do read about it occasionally and watch many documentaries and movies about WWII.

What amazes me is that there are a never ending number of stories that took place during WWII that I had not heard of and just stumble upon.

Lot of the movies I watch regarding WWII have the caveat - "Based On A True Story".... when I see that I do research, find out the actual story and participants.... and I have discovered that the actual story, (that is, the most accurate), is most often more amazing than the movie.

That is NOT a criticism of the movies, many are fantastic... and you can't really make a movie that tells the 'full' story... unless the movie is 4 days long.

Just recently I got very involved in stories of individuals that did truly heroic things during WWII... and that I had never heard of and no movies have been made about them. Again, that's not criticism... just too many to make a movie about every one.

What I've come to believe is that "The Greatest Generation" was just that... they possessed a resolve, heroism, that is in very short supply today.

I often hear people say that if a World War were to occur today people would 'rise to the occasion'....well, I don't think so. Oh sure, a few would but for the most part....we're toast. - JamesJM
