The story continues:
Two vans of UCONN ski racers arive at the turnoff from 395 to Mammoth. Chains required. Appears kids from New England not too skilled or even knowlege of how chains should be installed. To the rescue comes Teddy (grandson) he says he's been to Mammoth many times for races. But he's been there in AWD or 4 WD vehicles and knows little about chain installation. So they all "huddle" and agree to have him install them on the real wheels. Unfortunately no one is aware that these are front wheel drive vans.By the time the chains are now taken off and put on the front wheels they are all experts at chain installation-including the girl racers.
Apparently last word is they are safe and sound and warm in some big house even though no one can see outside since the place is covered in 50 ft of snow.
Nevertheless he races Wednsday and Thursday assuming the slopes are cleared enough of the fresh powder to race on. These are the USA National Championships-meaning its a big deal !
Now the catch: His dad (my son) figures to drive from Sacramento to Mammoth to pick my grandson up Unfortunately coming from the north going south on 395 won't work since it's closed from Bridgeport south. So he's figuring driving out to the desert to save some time but has no idea the road conditions. Assuming he makes it to Mammoth he picks up Teddy and drives south to L.A. X where Teddys girlfriend is flying in from New Jersey. Teddy has scheduled his dad leaving on a flight to go back to Sacramento before the "squeeze" arrives at L. A.X. Apparently my grandson wants the "squeeze" to meet his grandparents (Barb and I)before his dad My son then flys home to Sacramento and Teddy and his "squeeze" drives to our home in San Juan Capistrano and spends two days. Unfortunately I'm covering depositions for a few days and really won't be around. They then leave and drive to Sacramento for the "squeeze" to meet Teddy's parents.
And this is why I don't sleep much at night.
So I ask my friends here: what possibly could go wrong ? (
