He signed an extension not even a year ago. And he only signed it though 3 more seasons. Would he really leave after already seemingly setting a retirement date ?
I think McVay is burned out. I think he said as much privately.
If true, it’s kinda like a medical condition. IOW, it’s beyond McVay’s control.
If I were forced to wager, I would bet that he takes an indefinite leave of absence but one of at least one year.
I don’t want a HC that’s less than 100% committed, anyway. And the sooner he makes his decision, the better.
I’m guessing that Rams are furiously compiling a list of HC candidates as we speak.
As I indicated in my lengthy post elsewhere, I think this McVay ‘condition’ has been affecting him all season.
I just can't see a guy as driven and competitive as McVay walking away after the first sign of adversity ....he would completely tarnish his legacy with such a move
I hear ya, R2K. But you’re speaking calmly and logically without being burned out.
If McVay is burned out, and he’s exhibiting all the symptoms, then he simply can’t help himself and all logic goes out the window.
Think if it like this. If McVay had had a severe stroke or was in a coma of unknown length then we would better understand and relate. It would be a medical thing and there would be no debate.
I think McVay’s energy commitment burned hotter and brighter than that of other HC’s. The good news is that he had a first 5 years for the record book. The bad news is that it consumed him and that energy level now is just flickering by comparison.
