I was going to reply with this post to MamaRama above in lieu of body language. I watched the local channel 7 ABC affiliate “Sean McVay” show (hosted by Kurt Sandoval) and McVay looks like a zombie. It’s not the usual McVay. He certainly doesn’t look jovial. He doesn’t look ticked off. He looks numb.
The only experience I can recall that scintillaly relates is for one year I was a school teacher. All boys high school. I had the animals. They turned me into a zombie. I know I settled for that job. High school teaching entails a lot of baby sitting. I’d rather be a teacher where people want to be there.
But I was certain that I was going to quit at Christmas break. I ended up gutting it out. I completed the school year and went onto pursue another career since I knew I didn’t want to ever teach high school again.
All I can say is if McVay is at the Vermiel point, he can gut it out. Who doesn’t want that job? Am I naïve to the strains and time commitment and emotional roller coaster? No. But look at how many coaches there are at all the different levels of football. They clearly manage the downside of coaching.
It might be a matter of finding how to work smarter not harder.
I think he’ll be back. He’s probably just handling the semi PTSD (not to demean that term as it relates to actual soldiers). Once he gets out of the fog of war, he should be back strong IMO.
