I'm still somewhat skeptical that whatever was going on behind the scenes with Akers earlier this year has been totally resolved. But if it has having him in the fold for 2023 would benefit both sides.
McVay is going to commit to further fixing the running game and improving the OL. And Akers will want to set himself up for a good 2nd contract.
Could the Rams still trade him? Very possible. But ideally he is a (productive) Ram alongside Williams in 2023 and then nets the Rams a compensatory pick when he signs elsewhere in 2024. Also would take the pressure off the Rams needing to consider drafting a RB before day 3.
