He was simply being held back by having the misfortune of playing on two dysfunctional teams. It doesn't get worse than the Browns, with the possible exception of the 2022 Panthers. From the moment the Rams claimed Mayfield, I have been hoping that he will end up being their long-term QB. He is only 27. Stafford is 34 and has injury issues, including what seems to be chronic arm problems. It's a really bad sign when a QB isn't able to throw during the entire off season and then can't make throws downfield. I like the way Mayfield makes quick decisions and his toughness, competitiveness, and athleticism.
