Isnt a defense supposed to play their best about all the time?
If I ever heard a coach take that approach, I think he should be fired.
I know it's asking a lot since they are playing pretty well for the most part but you should always be trying to get better. I am sure they are playing their "best" all the time but maybe some little changes might help make them even better AND help get our offense more possessions.
There is always something to improve on IMO.
Here's the thing, shouldn't they be looking at it like this?:
"OK, our offense isn't pulling it's weight. What can WE do to help them? The O is having trouble scoring, so maybe getting them more possessions will help?
How can we get them more possessions? By getting the other team off the field sooner? If so, how?"
Just as if the D wasn't getting the job done and was having trouble stopping other teams, the offense (even if playing well) might want to try to sustain longer drives to "help" the D by limiting the other teams offensive possessions.
A good example of this was the 2000 Rams team. The O was playing great but the D couldn't stop anyone. By our offense scoring so quickly the other teams made the games a shoot out because their O was right back on the field. Trying to run longer drives on O might have helped the D more.
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
