You can't put the team on his shoulders. He just ain't that driven like the super elite QBs. He talks Xs & Os but he is really not that Guy. He relies more on guile and arm but he can't get out of negative plays or command the offense and ultimately we had enough around him to make a SB champion but he is not that guy to go run back if like you would expect from Brady, MaHolmes, Rogers in the current era.
Seems a little harsh, Bum. To me, anyway.
I know what we saw towards the end of the year and we were winning with him and sligthly despite him. He was not even SB MVP top 2 candidate. there is a reason for that.
I am good with what he accomplished but I do not see this team being elevated by him and personally I do not anticipate he will see another SB in a Rams uni and I was kinda hoping he would remain a rental and leave at the end of his trade contract but now we are back in Jared Goff territory with is current skillset and tendencies. I don't see him elevating play but if he would have been that type of leader McVay might be more comfortable turning over the play calling to an OC. McVays efforts to control things with Goff appear that he may be doing the same with with Stafford because Matt is not seeing the whole field and not spreading the ball around.
Matt built his career off some mad arm talent and extremely talented WRs to throw to no matter the coverage. They made him as much as he relied on them. He did what he needed to do.
We gave him that opportunity on a loaded double stuffed team and that is when he can be leveraged best for a Championship.
