Would it be fair to describe the premium picks for the Rams have largely been ‘pretty good’? Most, if not all are still on the 53 on various teams but nary a stud?
Meanwhile, the other teams in our division are finding studs outside the 1st round.
Is it our scouting or is it our coaching players up that has caused this shortfall? Or both?
There was a time that I thought Rams were among best drafters AND best asst coaches for rapid development, but I don’t feel so sure about that anymore.
I’ve suggested that perhaps McVay has been asking for players that are of non-optimal profiles for success at certain positions. For example:
RB- perhaps a little bigger? More emphasis on vision?
OL- too much emphasis on pass pro but not enough on run blocking?
TE- more emphasis on blocking ability?
Edge- need more pressure? Perhaps need to draft with our highest pick? Or do a blockbuster trade?
Now, I’ve seen a couple of beat writers post articles with the same theme.
Rams seem now to have painted themselves into corners with all of these positions to the point that McVay has his hands tied as to what plays he can even call. So frustrating…
If my hypothesis is correct then this is not a quick fix.
Unfortunately, our AD SB window demands a rather quick fix. Goodness…
