Rams OL suffered injuries of biblical proportions. No team could adequately handle such losses. I mean, we’re still starting Bobby freaking Evans, for crying out loud! But would the original healthy starting 5 have been all that? Wouldn’t Humphrey look better at OC? And Edwards has been underwhelming for quite a while now even before injury. Boom has had a lot of injury problems and here we are. I think it’s fair to say that Rams coaches have been overestimating their OL for years. Our running game sucked last year too, remember?
I have to wonder what Ram scouts are being asked to look for when evaluating OL talent. I can't remember the poster who said it, but they remarked at how the team had drafted several tackles and had to shoehorn most of them at the guard position at one time or another. While I agree that cross-training is necessary, there is a reason why there are defined positions across the O-line. If you drafted Bobby Evans to be a dancing bear on the perimeter, don't get too upset if he can't move the opposing DT.

At RB Rams keep drafting players that haven’t produced and/or stay healthy. This has been going on for years. Is that pure bad luck or simply poor evaluation? I’m thinking more the latter.
Not so sure if it's poor evaluation rather than McVay looking to draft the next Todd Gurley/Marshall Faulk unicorn (in the later rounds, of course). Funny how McVay's offense has turned south since Gurley wasn't Gurley anymore.

Which brings me to Edge. Is there any doubt that this is our biggest need by far despite adding player after player both through the draft and FA? Our edge opposite Floyd is simply deplorable, just a handful of JAGS. An example of extremely poor return on investment in picks and FA.
The Rams have invested a lot of capital in this position over the years and aside from Floyd and VM, has seen very little return - just like most teams. I think the Rams have just had bad luck in this respect. But I find it interesting in how they recognize the urgency of fielding a good DL as opposed to OL.
