This isn't a near best-of-all-time defense that can support a minimally adequate offense. Tweaking the defense will not accomplish anything for the Rams.
So, acquiring a player like Brian Burns would be tantamount to a "tweak" for you? Not being argumentative, but just want clarification.
But going back to one of my original questions...
Do you see any defensive difference-maker (i.e. someone that allows this current defense to improve from allowing 17.3 ppg to, maybe...IDK - 15.7 ppg) that could be had for 2023 2nd & 3rd round draft picks?
I'm just looking at what the defense has done thus far with an injury-riddled secondary. If that unit could return to health (strong possibility); mixed in with the very good performance we're getting out of Wagner and Jones; and, a strong (not necessarily elite) acquired edge rusher...I think that the defense can be on par with what we saw in the Super Bowl and NFCCG. We'd then only be asking McVay/Stafford/Kupp/OBJ/re-built O-line to manufacture 20 - 24 ppg.
I think that this might be a better route to take than to rely upon an already suspect O-line (assuming we can't find an equally-qualified T or G to fortify it in a similar trade).
