It's a little different for me as compared to the general public's perception however... and more in line with your thoughts. It was the Jet's running game that won that game, not Namath.
However... what the game meant for me was not Namath, or even the running game for that matter... it was the young upstart AFL showing they could play with the NFL. I readily admit I didn't expect it.... actually, and to this day (taken in context of the year it was played), that Colt team I consider one of the best I've ever seen.
