I didn't see the game and the highlights don't do anything as far as conveying the flow and dynamics of the game are concerned. While watching the Bills game it was obvious to me in a lot of plays, one-time through on TV, that Donald and Gaines were being boxed in 3-on-2, and when spread, Donald still got the 3. while Gaines got 1:1.
On one play that Jim Youngblood posted, Gaines was making a swim move (shades of Reggie White) to move inside, leaving a wide-open lane for Adams to run in on the other side while (and here's my point) AD was corralled again by
three Bills players.
Jim Youngblood's point was that Gaines created the hole by putting that swim move on, moving inside, which took him out of position to contain the running QB. My incidental observation was that I saw AD being played that way just about every time I looked for him. The Bills tape, I thought as the game progressed, will be a blueprint for other OCs. Not that they'll have the weapons that the Bills do to execute it, but the scheme in some ways will be duplicable for the rest of the Rams schedule.
All of which leads me to wonder: Were you guys seeing a loafing AD, or an offensive effort that is better geared to throttling him?
Anybody have a breakdown?
