Everyone on the initial 53 man roster has their contract guaranteed for the year. Cutting someone actually makes the cap situation worse, and here's how.

If the Rams cut Evans at this point he'd be gone but his $965,000 salary would still count against the cap.

Then either McCutcheon or Keir Thomas would be included in the 51 man cap computation, making the Rams $705,000 more over the cap than they were before they cut Evans.

If they trade Evans, though, his new team assumes his salary and the cap hit comes off the Rams books.
