According to Pro Football Reference ( [
www.pro-football-reference.com] ) Von Miller played a total of 12 games with the Rams and had 9 sacks. Lewis, Hollins, and Obo had a combined 7 sacks across the regular season and post season so on the surface it looks like Miller was an upgrade.
HOWEVER, the Rams as a team had 28 sacks in the 9 games before Miller's arrival (an average of 3.1 sacks per game) and another 34 sacks in the 12 games after Miller's arrived (an average of 2.8 sacks per game). [

The Rams were 3rd in the league last year with 50 sacks in the 2021 regular season, but they were on pace for 53 before the Miller trade ...
Considering all that ...did Miller do anything more that get sacks that someone else would have gotten anyway? I know 9 sacks in 12 games is impressive - it extrapolates to a 13 sack regular season - but as a team the Rams were essentially no better at sacking the QB with Miler than they were without him.
Burning question: why did the Rams sack rate drop after the Miller trade?!? (My first thought was the quality of the competition, but the Rams' opponents in the 9 games without Miller averaged 18th overall in sacks allowed while their opponents in the 12 games Miller did play averaged 14th. Is that enough to account for the difference?)
