This was one of the first (if not the first, I can’t recall) FA signings after McVay was hired. It was about more than getting a high quality left tackle; he was a foundational piece for the culture McVay wanted to - and did, quite successfully - establish. I remember a preseason game ( I would say a meaningless preseason game, but that would be redundant) where the Rams turned the ball over and it was returned for a TD. Even though the opponent had something like a 20 yard lead, Whit sprinted full out and did not stop running until he - Whit - reached the end zone. Everyone on this board went crazy about the type of player we had secured.
