Would you say that playing Ramsey in the "star" position had an impact on making our D better than if we had Ramsey follow the #1 most of the time? How did it actually make our D better?
I get the "concept" of they were trying to do but IMO, the impact just wasn't that big. IMO, we still would have been just as good of a D either way. In the end, it really didn't matter.
I don't recall it really making a difference. I don't think Ramsey made anymore "big" plays by "roaming" than he did as a "lockdown" guy. So what exactly did we gain (other than stroking Ramsey's ego) by letting him play "star"?
not sure #1 receivers killed us last year too often, when they did, Ramsey was on them a few times . . . and Ramsey shut them down plenty too
I am like you, it would prolly work either way...our problem was giving up a lot of yards...short stuff . . . not the deep stuff that gives up quick scores . . . and that is the theory of the "star" no big plays in the seams or middle
