IF.... IF.... you're a pocket QB, and you take good care of your body, and the fire still burns to play, I suspect there's no reason a QB couldn't play until well into his 40's. It could be that non-running QBs can have careers paying them big bucks for 20-25 years.

There isn't anywhere else they could ever think of earning $35 mil per year (except for Tom Brady's absurd announcer contract). And I don't care who you are, that's a lot of money to walk away from even though you spend less time with your family than you might prefer. Besides, smart teams find ways to let their star QBs that are late in their careers have a little extra time off because they just don't need as much practice.

Tom Brady's arm is fine. Brees's arm is fine. Stafford's arm is fine. Matty Ryan's arm is fine. Rogers arm is fine. And, after all those years, they can recognize D's and run an offense as good as they ever have, if not better. And the league offers a lot of protection for QBs, now (wisely). No reason these guys can't play maybe until they're almost 50.

Guys like Wilson and Jackson on the other hand will have far shorter careers because running is such a huge part of what they do, and their bodies take a terrible beating. Even a guy like Josh Allen will not be able to play as long due to the physical nature of his play. He's the new Rothlesberger; Rothlesberger retired because his body couldn't take it any more.

Sounds like Brees has been let go by NBC

I think there's a new economy of money and length of career emerging

Since when did Brees have a canon for an arm?

RockRam126May 17, 2022 12:15PM

I think the opposite with so much money being offered

If that's true, why are QBs playing longer than ever?

RockRam106May 17, 2022 12:13PM

  My guess is that..

Yep. That's the point. QBs are unique for a number of reasons.
