This is such a contrivance, again.
I say in a tie, play a full 5th quarter keeping all the same timing rules. Still tied? Play a 6th quarter. I guarantee you there will be a winner.

But in reality, is there really a totally "fair" way? I guarantee you a losing team will say no, and the winning team yes. Some ref's call will be blamed for the loss or Lord knows what.

Each possible way has its own strategy and decision points, and its own issues.

What about player safety? How much exposure to injury for very tired bodies, and many who are likely to suffer dehydration, is going to be factored in?

In the end, there's no nice way to break a tie.
