Is the "mighty" FIVE STAR ...already deemed NCAA Superstars. The NFL.....All eyes are zoomed in on those top 20-30 picks. But as a huge NCAA fan who has attended countless Gator games, I can tell you that MANY times, I have seen 4,3,2 Star and even Walk On players, smoke the hell out of the big names that Schools were kissing a$$ to get. Toooooo often, I have seen 4-5 Star guys play with ZERO heart. About 27-28 years ago, the Gators Recruited THE QB of the North East. His name escapes me...Probably because he did not get past the Spring Orange / Blue Scrimmage game.
The NFL.......We have the Dog N Pony Show called the Combine. It shows just how PHYSICALLY ready players are for the NFL!! You guys recall the commentators giggling at Tom Brady as he ran?? They have "Tests" (Wonderlick) that tell just how ready a player is Mentally for the NFL...That worked out REEEEEEEEAL well with Ryan Leaf and Lawrence Phillips, eh??? Pre Draft, 5-6 years ago, I never ONCE heard the Talking Heads say a PEEP about Cooper Kupp. 20something years ago, some guy named Kurt Warner was kicked around like garbage.
Getting ahead of myself..... More n more, I look at the guys from smaller schools or the guys in the BIG games , in the SEC, who had the high motor and played with heart. I have said it before and I'll say it agin.....Jerry Glanville was sorta kooky as a Coach but he was spot on when he said he tossed Combine evaluations out the window and where the kid came from. The only questions should be.......Once the pads are on, CAN the kid play football and does he WANT to play football.
