Regular season performance seems to be key for these guys getting jobs. By the time you get to the playoffs that year's crop of eligibles is pretty much set in the mind of owners and GMs. So in Morris' case his "settling in" period in this defense enabled the Rams to bring him back after a great performance in the playoffs.
I mean it's interesting how Staley was a guy we knew would get poached, based on our defense dominating in the regular season. But then things didn't work out in the playoffs it didn't really hurt him, he was already belle of the ball.
For 2021 this is great for the Rams. Morris knows he's gotta start strong and have a great regular season to get that job he wants. He has a full grasp of the players and scheme he'll be calling for McVay. Seems to me that if the Rams bolster that secondary and bring Von back they might have a truly dominant defense. I'm talking the kind of defense that can win us a second consecutive championship. One good corner would make a world of difference and give Morris more leeway in terms of rushing 4 because he won't be as dependent on the rush.
