I am not talking about finding the next AD. That's like planning to win the lottery a 2nd time. I doubt I will ever see a Ram DT match him in my lifetime.
But many really good defenses thrive with good DTs not in his league. There are other ways to do things.
For example, we could commit to finding better ILBs. Adust schemes. Etc. I have always felt our run D allows him to isolate himself.
I ain't no DC. And I am not advocating moving away from him prematurely. Maximize him as long as we have him? Absolutely.
But we better be planning for A) if he retires,
when he starts to slip and C) when he is gone. Those days are coming. Probably sooner than we think. And the FO better be preparing.
