He may have more than 'pride' to drive him should he continue. I would not put too much into words at this time, that is - - what AD is saying... no doubt it indicates he sees a finale coming soon, and sure... that finale might be this year. With a little time I think he'll better be able to define, to himself, what that 'finale' looks like.
Should he find more than just 'pride'... and I think it possible - run it back, back to back SB's is nothing to sneeze at... individually and historically as a team. His teammates... who appear to be quite motivated to repeat... and his loyalty to them AND the realization they NEED him... I can see where that could well fit that being the driven motor you speak of.
Allow me a short anecdote. I had just come off the trail in the Sierra Nevada wilderness.... this in my late 50's. It had been harder, considerably harder, than ever.... even though I was in very good shape it played on my mind. Arriving home I told my wife, "That may be it for me. This time it was a struggle." The following spring I began working out, once again, but with no goal in mind... but every day as I ran my route I could see those Sierra's looming in the distance.... e-v-e-r-y-d-a-y. About mid-March I realized... the trail being tough wasn't a sign of the end... it was the sign of a new challenge. By mid-April I paused at the end of a run one day and pointed to Sierra's and vowed, "I'm coming back"... and I did, AND with renewed vigor, new goals.
Now I have no idea if AD will experience anything like that... in fact, he may have met his goals, as you spell out. But what I'm adding here is that... you never know, what drives you might not be the same from year to year... but being driven.... well, that motor dies hard. - JamesJM
