How many of you were told before a HS football game, "all we have to do is block and tackle and we'll be fine"?
Of course, the NFL is a different universe of complexity and difficulty from anything I ever experienced. But in this particular game, I think it comes down to this fundamental: blocking & tackling.
They do these fundamentals better than we do and they do them relentlessly.
We have trouble blocking and especially tackling for 60:00. That's how they whup us.
We have a higher ceiling than they do. But our performance rises and falls in games. Theirs remains consistent. Below our ceiling but not by a huge spread. And we frequently dip below their steady level of discipline.
If we block and tackle with fundamental discipline, and if we do it relentlessly, play after play after play after play ... I think we'll win.
Will we? I dunno. I've seen a lot to like about this team this year. But I haven't seen them do that too much.
Block and tackle, Lads.
