the interior of our o-line was getting whupped on running plays, so it's not like no risk. Plus Gay missed a 47 short, A miss there give the Bucs good field position. Also, as we found out later in the game -runs can turn into fumbles.
A quick slant to Cupp or a bubble screen is about as safer as a run and one thing our o-line was doing well was pass blocking.
Coaches can only call plays - the success or failure depends in large part to the players executing. When the game's on the line, you put the ball in the hands of your best players. In that game is was Kupp, Higbee and Stafford, maybe OBJ too. Akers did not play a very good game. In fact it was bad.
You play to win the game. That's it. Love him or hate him, that's McVay's philosophy.
well, he didn't play to win the game when all we needed was one first down vs Niners with 1:50 left in the game...he ran it three straight times for three yards and took like 18 seconds off the clock and punted it back....
now, when all we need to do is run it three straight times and take the easy 40 yard FG to go up by THREE scores and essentially put that game to bed, he goes empty set shot gun
Like I said, I love love love the dude, he is a great coach.....but sometimes his game flow awarenesses are suspect....thats all
