Like you the kick being 'short' never entered my mind... not even after they signaled a miss. I thought I had somehow misread the ball going inside the upright... or actually I thought the officials has misread it.
As to your question... that was as strange as it gets - when, was it Al?, mentioned that Gay had an issue in warm-ups and then didn't say one word about what that issue might be. - JamesJM
