if I don't take his comments about DCs becoming head coaches or literally anything else in life seriously.
That might be a little harsh, Dead, but I do get where you’re coming from.
A good HC requires a different skillset than a good coordinator. We’ve seen evidence of that for years, the latest including Vic Fangio.
Similarly, a player needs a different skillset than a DC.
Ramsey is an elite CB, probably the best in the game today. But that doesn’t mean I would necessarily go to him for financial, marital, or other such non-related advice. Nothing against Ramsey, mind you, it’s just that being expert in one field does not necessarily make you even competent in an unrelated field.
Now, about Morris. He’s finally made some adjustments that have really helped this Ram D, but he waited too long to make them, imo. Many were clamoring for these changes back in October for crying out loud. So I give him a ‘better late than never’ attaboy, tbh. IOW, I would rank him in the middle or average range as a DC.
I predict that he’s done just enough recently to save his job for ‘22.
However…
As I said earlier, HC requires a different skillset than DC. It is just possible that Morris has the necessary skillset to be a successful HC. Leadership, organizational skills, ability to identify and hire quality asst coaches, etc. We do know that he is glib behind a microphone and his players seem to love him. But is that enough? Nope. The other skills must also be there beyond the X’s and O’s And lovability.
Clearly, it is difficult for teams to hire just the right HC.
To summarize, I wouldn’t give much weight to Ramsey’s tweeted opinions as to Morris’ likely success as a HC, either.
