"Do we have enough decent players to fill in around the superstars we're trading top draft capital for?"
It's tough to see this year when injuries have left the entire league thin everywhere.
Also it's to be noted that the picks we're giving up are late in the 1st round. No where near the value. Not likely to get a freak picking there.
This year is also the toughest because we've had impact rookies almost every year from later rounds.
So right now we have the numbers. Looks like we have enough D line for the next 2-3 years. O line we'll likely have to spend some money on Allen and either Boom or Whit to keep it intact.
We have 5 safeties and are 6 deep at CB, but we've been good at loading those guys on in the 4th-6th rounds. Same with ILB. Although we rarely even draft those.
Tutu makes all of this sting. I think I threw my phone and screamed when we picked him. I was just as mad when we picked Brian Quick with Alshon Jeffery on the board.
Right now the math is working. We're keeping enough players around our superstars, resigning guys early, and gathering draft capital from compensatory picks and training them.
Biggest issue I see is that our coaching tree is now the most famous in the NFL so McVay is having to rebuild his staff every year replacing MULTIPLE coaches. That's an issue. And sometimes there isn't an up and coming guy ... and we have to kick the tires on a guy like Morris who isn't going to do what Staley did.
So trading for Stafford, a guy who can do it without a RB, can do it with coaches appearing and disappearing every year, is likely the right guy for this job ... especially considering he and Kupp and Woody are under contract till what ... 2024? Akers coming back healthy next year?
I'm sad we don't have a 2nd next year because with the size of the class we could have nabbed a pass rusher. But we may have a Brian Allen sit next year and Lewis may have a fully healthy year at full speed ...
