Stafford was not the reason Rams lost.

January 10, 2022 03:47PM
Yes, Stafford has thrown picks and yesterday he threw 2 more, 1 in OT to end the game. HOWEVER, I see people saying he doesn't show up when we need him. BS!

While he didn't have the greatest of games, He played more than well enough for the Rams to win that game, The culprit for the loss was squarely on some ridiculous calls from McVay and Horrible tackling by our Defense.

We had a 17-0 lead and on 3rd and half a yard McVay decides to go empty set with an Oline that was getting beat like a drum and Stafford gets sacked. Bad Play #1.

our D proceeds to allow a 61 yard drive in 38 seconds for a FG before the half making it 17-3 at the half.

Second half, D allows a 9 play 75 yard drive in 4:28 and now its 17-10

Rams possession, 2 runs for 4 yards and a hurried throw that fell incomplete.

Niners second possession of second half D allows a 12 play 74 yard drive for a TD in 7:02, score tied 17-17

Rams second Possession, Stafford throws an Int on 3rd down and 16 from our own 19, the pick happened at the SF 32. that's like a 49 yard punt. think Hekker does better? I don't. These types of Picks do not bother me. Chances of picking that 16 yards was slim.

Now the game hits a lull and there are a couple back and forth Punts and then the Niners drive deep into Rams territory and Ramsey picks it off in the endzone.

Rams get the Ball after an ill advised run out of the endzone at our own 8 yard line with 7:42 left in the game all knotted up at 17-17

Now, here is where I take issue with the "Stafford doesn't show up when needed" comments.

Stafford now leads the Rams on a 10 play, 92 yard Scoring drive, going 4-4 for 58 yards, taking 5:13 off the clock for a go ahead TD! 24-17 with just 2:34 to play. I ask you, what more do you want from your QB? He led this team to a go ahead TD with just 2:34 to play and he couldn't run anymore time off the clock because the TD play came on 3rd and Goal.
That was also a fantastic throw and catch to Kupp. but some of you say he didn't show up when needed.

This loss was NOT on Stafford, this Loss was on the fact the D missed 19 tackles which seemed like a hell of a lot more watching the game, they gave up drive after drive and our Oline nearly got Stafford killed.

Next series our D forces a 3 and out and Miller gets a HUGE Sack. 1:57 to go Niners punting.

This is where we should have ended this game. we have the ball at our own 40 and we proceed to run 3 times into a Niners D that had all 11 players within 10 yards of the LOS for a total of 5 yards and take 23 seconds off the clock. we have OBJ, Higbee and Kupp, line up heavy Jumbo show run and hit short drag patterns.

Yes, I know we forced them to burn all their timeouts, but we should have tried going for the first down. like I said, play action, heavy Jumbo set, 2 TE and Kupp as WR, have him fake going left and then spin and run to the right, Stafford rolls out right and you have Kupp alone with a trailing Corner, tell me he can't get 10 yards. Bad Play calls # 2, and 3.

Don't believe me on that alignment? Here go to the 10:25 mark and see for yourself, Look at the body language of that Defense on 3rd and 7

So instead, we punt the ball back to the Niners, and pin them down at their 12 with no timeouts and only 1:27 seconds left to play up 24-17.

Here is where you would think our D could stop them from scoring a TD, But no, we allow a 7 play, 88 yard drive for the tying TD in just 1:01 and they had no timeouts. Again, missing tackles and leaving guys WIDE open,

so, for those saying Stafford didn't show up, think again, he showed up and did more than enough to win this game. that second INT should never have been able to happen. but that's how the game ended and that's all some see. it's a shame.

Man goes 21-32, 238 yards and 3 TDs including a fantastic throw to take the lead very late, but it's all overshadowed by 2 Picks, 1 that meant nothing more than a punt and led to no points and the other never should have even been in that situation to begin with.
