"Rams defense is better than Broncos---" Without a doubt, but ...
Do the Rams have better personnel?
Is Morris a better DC than Donatell?
How involved is Fangio with the Broncos defense? Does he call the defensive plays? Make the game plan?
And finally - and this is actually the most important one as far as I'm concerned - would Fangio be a better DC with the Rams than Morris has been? (Note: I don't have any complaints with Morris, just wondering if there's an opportunity to make the Rams better.)
When McVay wanted someone succeed Wade he wanted someone who could install the Fangio defense. Why? Because it was the defense that McVay had the hardest time game planning against. Enter Staley.
When Staley left McVay wanted to hire a DC to continue running the Rams' version of the Fangio defense. Why? Well, they were the #1 defense in the NFL - why change what works? Enter Morris, even though he had no experience with the Fangio defense!! This season he learned the defense on the fly and dealt with changes in personnel, and at this point the D looks pretty damn good.
There's no question in my mind that the Rams will once again run the Fangio defense next year. And it seems to me that if the Rams had a choice the guy who invented the defense would be a better choice than the guy who just learned it this year.
I agree with the questions, but the point is Fangio
s defense is bend but don't break, it's match quarters and cover-6
its soft shells and disguised---NOT moving a top corner to match
versus the top WR....
all the stuff many people here HATE and now some want him?
That's the irony.
As for you questions they are unknowable. As someone who watches Denver a lot I know
what I think----and I know all about Donatell . . .
it it was good for a laugh---the whole culprit of bend but don't break and the Rams
fans who hate it want the father of it and all the things they HATE
