They have to keep him right? He is the best return guy they have had in a very long time. He is a legitimate threat to take it back every time.
I can't stress enough how huge that play was in the Ravens game where he back peddled and caught an absolute howitzer of a punt over his shoulder and returned it 15 yards or so to set the Rams up for a scoring drive.
If he doesn't field that punt and run it back some they are buried deep in their own end again and who knows how that would have turned out.
Even if his only job is to return kickoffs and punts, he is darn good at both and has earned his place on this team and I would hope he sticks around for a while. It's a huge asset to have a good returner on your team even if you have to eat up a roster spot to do so.
He has played a hand in the last two road game wins. He has been huge, I know one play against the Ravens but that one play made a big difference. Other than Kupp I don't see any of the returners they have had or tried out that go back and make that catch over the shoulder and turn it into a positive play. Most of them would have watched it go over their heads and bounce deep into Rams territory. Kupp would have caught it, but after a fair catch.
Powell is fast becoming a fav or mine. He will make a play for them in the playoffs that changes the game in a great way.
