If you don't want Stafford reverting back to bad habits and some of his gunslinger tendencies you ground the offense so it's not all on his shoulders. Then you don't get the wild swings of 3 TDs one week and then the next week he's forcing things that aren't there. McVay is trying to work all that out of him and get him playing within the scheme.
Stafford has sky high talent so that's basically the story here IMO.
If we had protections that were more consistent in giving up pressures you could probably throw it as much as McVay wants to. But tbh what makes McVay's offense special is the run/pass marriage right. So it follows that he's gotta keep it balanced even when he's got a big arm back there. And the good thing about him being reminded of that by our 3 game losing streak is that being balanced means a longer playoff run. Pass happy teams die in the playoffs.
