I do think Fuller is the one guy who fits the scheme. He's comfortable playing two deep and being over the top, also very good at moving up in support without forgetting his responsibilities.
After him though, yeah we have a bunch of SS types. Guys who fit moreso a Phillips defense. Which makes sense since Rapp was drafted for that scheme.
So basically what the Rams need is 1 safety to step up and play better in breaking on the ball and making quick decisions in his drops. I don't know if there's anyone on the roster who can do that. Rapp's a smart guy and all but he just seems to struggle naturally with that play style. I think he's best primary nickelback type role next to Jones with anyone else over the top in his place.
Keep mentioning Hughes, in that he actually looked pretty good in coverage in preseason and won a roster spot due to it. I realize he's not as good a tackler as Scott but given what has plagued the Rams at safety I would think Hughes would get a shot to win that job, that they would be giving him a look before the playoffs in an attempt to sort that spot. But we don't get to see practices and all that so I am sure there's a reason why he hasn't been given that opportunity.
Lastly IF the corners can keep playing how they have been of late we can get by being one safety short or using a non-optimum option back there. Just puts more on Morris to need to disguise and keep offenses from isolating whoever that is, be it Rapp or Scott.
