Rams had been a very strong team for a long, long time (10 years?) but could never get over the hump into the big game...after several frustrating games with Minnesota, Dallas, etc.
They had James Harris, Haden and others and Vinny took a banged up 9-7 team to the Super bowl beating a powerhouse Cowboys team that was in back to back Super bowls. No easy feat to try and beat the Steelers either who were the current Super bowl Champions and had played in 4 Super bowls in 3 of the last 5 years......
AND they almost won! Sure he missed a wide open Waddy, but as LMU said, dropped int by Cromwell and poor coverage allowing Swann to score didn't help either.
Also, can't compare eras as the game changed 1970s to now.....Ground Chuck vs McVay?
