According to overthecap.com is will cost just over $15M to tag Williams for 1 season. [
overthecap.com] (Which obviously means a $15M cap hit in 2022.)
But they could sign him for 3 years, $40M and only incur a relatively small cap hit in 2022.
As one example: Give him a $15M signing bonus and structure it like this:
2022: $1M salary plus $3M prorated signing bonus = $4M cap hit
2023: $10M salary plus $3M prorated signing bonus = $13M cap hit
2024: $14M salary plus $3M prorated signing bonus = $17M cap hit
2025: zero salary plus $3M prorated signing bonus = $3M cap hit (note: this is a void year for cap purposes only)
2026: zero salary plus $3M prorated signing bonus = $3M cap hit (note: also a void year)
With this deal Williams would play for the Rams for three more years and the Rams would have $6M in dead money in 2025.
