I'm just as pleased with the end results last weekend but I think it has to be taken with a huge grain of salt. Unfortunately, having a running game against the Jaguars is a unique situation. They have no offense or defense. You can afford to keep running against their less than dominant defense because they're not going to score any points.
We need to still stick with the running game against better opponents but we've seen this before. All the way back to Martz. He'd FINALLY run the ball for a change and you'd hope that he'd seen the light. But instead of being bolstered by the good results, he seemed to re-emphasize the pass even more the next game.
With McVay, it's more perplexing. He seemed to live and thrive on the running game when Gurley was here. He appeared to cut his coaching teeth as a balanced, innovative, unpredictable playcaller. Now, if given the choice, he seems not only happy to, but somehow shortsightedly compelled to use the passing game in excess.
So, color me skeptical that McVay is going to continue with the same type of gameplan in the upcoming games. Don't get me wrong, I hope I'm proven completely wrong. But, I won't believe until it actually happens.
